The Subaru Impreza has been such a successful rally racer back in the 1990s that many still revere it as the ultimate driver’s car despite aged tech. A few days ago, a 27-year-old street-legal Impreza with a rally-themed body kit was put up for auction in Poland.
The asking price of €33,000 sounds rich considering that even a brand-new, latest-gen Subaru WRX can be had for a little less. Still, being a first-generation Impreza coupe makes this example a rarity. The owner had it equipped with multi-spoke wheels finished in white and a 22B-style body kit including bumpers, extended arches, new side skirts and an adjustable rear wing.
The hood now sports an air scoop whose function is anything but decorative. Powering the car is a heavily modified 2.15-liter engine with a reinforced crankshaft, forged pistons and connecting rods and a plethora of other performance mods. As a result, the Impreza drives the wheels with 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 490 Nm (361 lb-ft) of torque. The six-speed manual transmission on board is also custom and takes advantage of shortened gear ratios.
Further modifications can be found in suspension, brakes and the interior, where two mismatched Sparco seats reside alongside a short-throw gear lever, an Alcantara-draped steering wheel and a new handbrake. The rear bench and the dashboard remain original.
