Video: Will a completely gutted-out Subaru Impreza WRX pass supercars?

A recent episode by Driven Media stars an unusual Subaru Impreza WRX wagon that its owner stripped clean of all the fluff, leaving only one seat inside, the pedals and the wheel.

The author of the project wanted to see just how much faster his family hauler would accelerate without all the trim. No expensive carbon, no cheap plastic, no frills – just bare bodywork on wheels. In the end, he succeeded in shaving off 135 kilograms (nearly 300 pounds), ending up with a car weighing in at 1,295 kilos (around 2,850 pounds).

You may have heard that in professional motorsports, every ten kilos (22 pounds) set you back one-third of a second per lap. By that logic, the emptied Subaru should be at least four seconds faster on the racing course now. But will it be?

Watch the video for the answer. The Impreza WRS takes on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a Ferrari 488 Pista and a track-only Radical racer. Things get wild when it starts raining, though: it looks like the Subaru driver goes pedal-to-the-metal, while all the others try to play it cautious with their costly rides. Perhaps this is why the Subaru overtakes them so easily. What do you think?
