Japanese car maker Subaru has come forward with a new version of the WRX STI sedan, called the Type RA-R. A small batch of only 500 vehicles will roll off the assembly lines to sell exclusively in Japan.
According to brand representatives, the special edition celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Subaru STI subdivision.
Compared to its standard counterpart, the Subaru WRX STI Type RA-R is 10 kilograms (22 lb) lighter and much stronger. Its hood cover opens to reveal a two-liter turbocharged engine with nearly 330 hp (246 kW) at its disposal, rather than the stock 2.5-liter boxer engine. Working in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine warrants the Type RA-R the title of the strongest vehicle in the STI family.
The car also comes equipped with new shock absorbers and springs, Brembo brakes and Michelin tires.
Japanese customers will be able to order their Subaru WRX STI Type RA-R until mid-December. Prices start at U.S. $44,000.
