Few pro drivers out there are proficient with high-performance station wagons on the racetrack, but popular TV host Chris Harris definitely qualifies as one. A few days ago, he was privileged to drive a unique 874-PS Subaru GL family hauler nicknamed the Huckster.
The car is a one-off custom project that manages to bring together classic looks and extreme capabilities of modern turbocharger kits. Some of its body and the entire aero kit are made of carbon fiber, and the side winglets at both ends are hydraulically controlled – check out the video to see how they change shape depending on the situation.
Despite the performance boost to the abovementioned 874 PS (862 hp / 643 kW), the car continues to rely on its standard inline four-cylinder block. An enormous turbocharger drives it to multiple times the stock output, and Harris in the video says he is amazed at how responsive the engine and the handling feel for a small-displacement car with a large turbo. A six-speed sequential transmission drives all four wheels, represented by KMC forged monoblocks. The suspension is long-travel and WRC-compliant, ensuring fast and precise cornering.
