The family car that Subaru showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in October went out for a test ride. Judging by the only spy pic available so far, the rear half stays true to the design of the original concept.
The Levorg GT Tourer currently on the market has been around since 2014. It uses the same technical base as the previous-gen Impreza and WRZ and measures 4,690 mm (15.4 feet) long with 2,650 mm (8.7 ft.) between the axles. The second generation comes based on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) that all other novelties of the Japanese brand also use.
The new Levorg will be Subaru’s first car to feature a brand-new 1.8-liter, opposite-cylinder turbocharged engine with so far undisclosed specs. In all likelihood, this mill will only ship in tandem with the company’s Lineartronic CVT transmission and AWD system. The old 1.6- and 2.0-liter turbos rated at 170 hp (127 kW) and 300 hp (224 kW), respectively, will likely remain available in Japan. As for Europe, where the wagon currently ships with a 2.0-liter non-turbo engine and 150 hp (112 kW) as the only option, we will have to wait and see.
The next-gen Levorg will pack an enhanced range of EyeSight features, including four bumper-mounted radars, a wider-angle stereo camera, and adaptive cruise control with GPS support.
Sales in Japan will launch in mid-2020.
