Subaru introduces the Outback Wilderness in the USA

Subaru SUVs generally tend to feel more at home in the wilderness than most other brands, but the company realizes that sky’s the limit: the new Outback Wilderness is a crosswagon that can take you on a vacation virtually anywhere.

The special edition sports black bumpers, deep-seated anti-fog lights, new roof rails and badges, better shocks and springs, 5 mm (0.2”) of extra wheelspan, under shields, 240 mm (9.4”) of ground clearance, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama Geolandar rubber. Its approach and departure angles have been improved and now amount to 20 and 23.6 degrees, respectively.

The old 2.4-liter turbocharged engine rated at 264 PS (260 hp / 194 kW) is unchanged, but the main gear of the Lineartronic CVT becomes shorter. The X-Mode system has received off-road-friendly logic tweaks, enabling the family hauler to climb 40-degree gravel slopes.

Inside, a hydrophobic agent coats the seat, and the infotainment system displays roll angles in real time.

Sales in North America will begin in the second half of 2021. The model is currently being produced in Indiana and will likely never become available outside of the USA.
