Subaru has used the New York Auto Show as an opportunity to reveal its refreshed Outback wagon.
The radiator grille stays the same shape, but the pattern was modified. The headlights are new with protruding lower parts matching side bumper extensions. The bumper itself is also reshaped somewhat and now houses two large fog lights.
Subaru claims redesigned wheel arch moldings do a better job protecting them from scratches. Things stay more or less as they were in the back.
The EyeSight assist package, which is standard for all Subaru vehicles sold in the USA, has also undergone a major revision. The on-board cameras now have wider angle of view, and top trim levels introduce a third camera mounted at the top of the windshield (the other two are at the sides of the car). Software performance has been improved, too, resulting in better recognition of pedestrians and cyclists.
Buyers can now opt for a smart automatic braking system that can steer the car away from its collision course as long as it moves at 80 km/h (50 mph) or lower. Blind spot monitoring is required for this new feature to be operational.
The infotainment system inside comes with an 11.6-inch touchscreen and supports wireless gadget connectivity straight from the factory. You can pay extra for a video mirror. Front seats now support 12 adjustments instead of 10, and the entire steering wheel is now heated instead of just the areas where it is held.
Sales will begin this autumn.
