Subaru unveils the Solterra EV for the USA

Subaru announced its upcoming electric SUV – the Solterra – last week, and now, the North American version of it is being exhibited at the LA Auto Show.

The car is set to ship in 2022. Like its Japanese counterpart, it comes powered by dual electric motors rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 334 Nm (246 lb-ft) of torque in total. A 71.4-kWh traction battery provides enough power for 354 km (220 miles) of driving range.

The AWD system features a function called X-Mode, which represents an off-road cruise control of sorts, managing torque and automatically braking the needed wheels in difficult situations such as descending a slope.

In its standard trim, the Solterra has an automatic emergency brake, launch control, blind spot monitoring, rear transverse motion warning, reversing assist, and more. A 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen also comes standard, and you can opt for a two-piece sunroof.
