Japanese automaker Subaru has posted an official teaser image of the next-gen WRX model and promised to reveal it before the end of the year. Despite earlier rumors that the WRX and WRX STI would switch to coupe body style, the car pictured in a sedan.
The company mentions a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, but its power remains a matter of speculation. Rumors say the regular WRX will have 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and the STI version will have 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). Neither will be electrified, and both will continue to use the old six-speed manual transmission design, anonymous reports claim.
By looking at the photos, one can conclude that the rear end of the car has no spoiler or wing attached. On the other hand, there is a large hood scoop like that of the Viziv Performance Concept featured in our gallery and video. The show car might lend the production WRX some other stylistic elements, too.
