CarExpert Australia claims a local office of Subaru gave a clear hint that the new generation of the Subaru Levorg would essentially be powered by the same internals as the new WRX – just hidden under a different body shape.
According to the insider, the performance-oriented Levorg will celebrate its premiere in Australia before the end of the current year. It will allegedly utilize the same 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as the latest WRX, boosted to approximately 290 horsepower (216 kilowatts).
The new Levorg has already debuted in Japan, where it makes do with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder, CVT, 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. An upmarket STI version adds adaptive shock absorbers, redesigned radiator grille and tailpipes, and 18-inch wheels.
The last time Subaru offered a WRX wagon in the United States was in 2007, and it looks like the purported new version won’t be making it outside of Australia, either.
