Subaru announces a STI E-RA Electric Concept for TAS-2022

Subaru will be unveiling multiple sports car concepts at the Tokyo Auto Salon coming up next month. One of these will be the battery-powered STI E-RA, and the manufacturer claims it will lay the foundation for a mass-produced performance EV.

In the meantime, here is a teaser pic showing the nose of the car obscured by a smokescreen. What little can be discerned looks significantly different from the controversial new WRX, which you can find in our gallery and the attached video. There is no conventional radiator grille and no large hood scoop, while the headlights sport C-shaped LED DRLs and the STI logo lights up in red to signal to everyone looking that it is a high-performance car they are looking at.

In addition to the E-RA, the Subaru booth at the expo will house a WRX STI Concept based on the JDM WRX S4 STI Sport R spec (you can also see it in the gallery here). Subaru Tecnica International outfitted it with a rage of aerodynamic improvements including a massive rear wing and a full body kit. A sported-up BRZ STI will also be present alongside a BRZ GT300 racecar prototype.
