Subaru WRX spawns a sportier modification

Subaru’s Tokyo show lineup this year included yet another hot take on the WRX. Dubbed the S4 STI Sport# (read: Sport Sharp), it will emerge in a batch of 500 units in Japan. All would-be buyers will have to draw lots for the privilege of getting one.

Subaru points out that the sedan now feels sharper and sportier to handle than ever before thanks to a number of aftermarket parts from the STI list. Improved noise proofing should make longer trips a bit more comfortable, too.

From the design perspective, the Sport# version boasts a unique radiator grille, a black trunk lid spoiler and blacked-out badges all around. It complements those with black side mirror covers and new 19-inch BBS wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.

Recaro seats inside come wrapped in artificial suede and support power adjustments. The steering wheel is draped in leather with silver stitching. More suede can be found on the dashboard and the ceiling.

The biggest technological novelty comes in the form of added STI braces at both ends, which Subaru claims make the car body more rigid and stable. Aside from that, the transmission gets improved cooling, but that’s about all.

The 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four mill mated to a CVT stays stock, producing its usual 271 PS (267 hp / 199 kW). The asking price in Japan is ¥6,237,000.
