Subaru XV/ Crosstrek gets a new 2.5-liter engine in the USA

According to Thomas Doll, CEO of Subaru North America, the Subaru Crosstrek SUV range will get a new opposite-four engine with 2.5 liters of displacement in the second half of 2020.

The compact crossover, which is known as the Subaru XV in Europe, will only ship with this engine in its topmost trim levels, bundled with the X-Mode AWD and the company’s signature chain-based CVT design.

The output of the new engine remains undisclosed, but we expect it to be close to that of the naturally aspirated engines of the Forester, Legacy, and Outback models. Specifically, all three pack 185 hp (138 kW) and 239 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque.
