Subaru XV facelift debuts with Forester engine under the hood

The Subaru Crosstrek a.k.a. XV has gone through a mid-generational refresh, ending up with slight visual improvements and a new engine in its higher Sport and Limited trims.

The new mill comes from Subaru Forester, has 2.5 liters of displacement and delivers 185 hp (138 kW) along with 239 Nm (176 lb-ft) of torque. This puts it considerably above the entry-level engine, a two-liter non-turbo good for 154 hp (115 kW).

Other options include a hybrid powertrain rated at 150 hp (112 kW) and a new 2.5-liter opposite-cylinder mill worth 185 hp (138 kW). The lower specs ship with a choice between six-speed manual and Lineartronic CVT, while the Limited and Sport trims only ship with the latter.

The looks remain largely unchanged, although the anti-fog lamps, the front bumper and the radiator grille are all slightly redesigned. The Sport spec stands out from the rest thanks to its 17-inch wheels, special body trim and interior details. It also features a trip computer with a color display and the X-Mode knob that is essentially a drive mode selector.

By default, every Crosstrek vehicle comes equipped with six airbags, climate control, multimedia, and the safety package called EyeSight.

Sales should start towards the end of summer, and all prices will be announced closer to the launch date.
