As you probably know, Subaru has an off-road car lineup called Wilderness which already includes its Forester and Outback models. Today, the Crosstrek joins the list with its own upgrades.
To start with, the suspension takes advantage of new springs and shocks and is advertised as being more robust than stock. The ground clearance gets a 16mm (0.6-inch) boost to 236 mm (9.2 inches), and the approach angle is now 20 degrees (the stock SUV has 18 degrees). The departure angle is 33 degrees (up from the standard 30.1). The wheels measure 17 inches across and wear a more off-road-friendly tire set. Finally, the underchassis is now screened from damage with stainless-steel skid plates.
Elsewhere, the SUV offers new, recalibrated off-road driving modes and benefits from a reinforced rear differential. Powering it is the model’s flagship 2.5-liter engine rated at 185 PS (182 hp / 136 kW).
On the outside, you can recognize the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness by its black bumpers, flared wheel arches, rugged door trims and a new radiator grille.
