In 1982, two young men took part in the Paris – Algeria – Dakar rally piloting a Suzuki LJ 80, the world’s smallest 4WD SUV at the time. The transcontinental endurance race proved extremely challenging for the duo of amateurs, but they still made it to the finish line in the end. To commemorate the enormous effort, car customizer delta4x4 is building a lookalike of the iconic LJ 80 based on the modern Suzuki Jimny (GJ).
The tuner has access to the original SUV from 1982 and will try to make the replica as close to the original as possible.
The work is not quite complete yet, but some improvements have been made. These include a 80mm (3.125-inch) suspension lift, wider wheel wells and fenders, and new 16-inch Delta Legacy Forged wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson Baja STZ off-road tires.
Further typical Suzuki LJ 80 features include the PIAA running lights on the windshield and the custom rally car livery painstakingly recreated using vinyl decals.
