First official images showing the finite version of the upcoming Suzuki Jimny SUV update have accidentally leaked on the Internet. The manufacturer had previously only published shots of camouflage-cladded test mules and carefully doctored teaser pics, so it’s high time we had a look at what the newcomer really is about.
Based on the new photos, the Suzuki Jimny gets to keep its babyish appearance and toy-like dimensions (not even 4m/13ft long!). But, as is often the case, the looks are deceptive, and the off-road fighter comes armed with a torque divider, a body-on-frame chassis and solid beam axles.
The next-generation Suzuki Jimny has an edgier and overall more brutal appearance than its predecessor. Think along the lines of Mercedes-Benz’s Gelaendewagen or Suzuki Samurai. The car comes with more preinstalled options for extra comfort and security, but its interior design still feels a bit rough around the edges.
The Suzuki Jimny will first enter the domestic market in Japan as a kei car, a tiny vehicle with a stylish exterior but a 0.66-liter engine. It will then be released in Europe, hopefully with a stronger engine palette consisting of turbocharged Boosterjet units or just regular, naturally-aspirated engines with a bit extra performance.
The vehicle should celebrate its market premiere before the end of 2018.
