The next generation of Suzuki Jimny SUVs has officially entered the market in Japan. There are still two variants to choose from, Standard (compact) and Sierra (full-size).
The SUV has changed in size compared to the previous generation. The Standard model is now 3,480 mm (11,4 ft.) long, 1,645 mm (5.4 ft.) wide, and 1,725 mm (5 2/3 ft.) tall. The full-size Sierra SUV is 70 mm or almost 3 inches longer, but otherwise has the same dimensions.
The new Suzuki Jimny Sierra gets a new naturally-aspirated 1.5L V4 engine rated at 102 hp / 76 kW. Its standard counterpart gets a small 0.6-liter engine with only 64 hp / 48 kW at its disposal. Both can work either with a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.
Available options include emergency brake, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, climate control, touch-display multimedia, LED headlights, cruise control, and keyless entry.
The base model of Suzuki Jimny costs the equivalent of U.S. $13,000 and above, whereas the Sierra comes priced at U.S. $16,000. European premiere date remains unannounced, but the company might debut the vehicle at the Paris International Motor Show this autumn.
