Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift debuts in India

The first “made in India” Suzuki vehicle hit the market in 2016 and quickly became the national best-seller, claiming the Car of the Year 2017 award and selling 500,000+ units since. An update is coming up now.

Despite the model’s huge success, Suzuki couldn’t just leave things as they were because of two reasons. First, the local environmental regulations were updated to the BS-VI standard. Second, Kia successfully launched its Seltos SUV last year, threatening to take a large share of the market. This is why we have seen the 2020 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift at the India Auto Expo in New Delhi.

On the outside, the crossover sports new headlights (now LED-based) and a completely new front, including the radiator grille and the bumper. The rear bumper makes do with minor restyling, and there are new trim materials along with an updated infotainment system in the cabin. You can opt for dual-tone 16-inch wheels and two new colors; if you wish, the manufacturer will paint the roof black for contrast.

The old 1.3-liter Fiat diesel with its 90 hp (67 kW) and 200 Nm (150 lb-ft) of torque will cease to be available starting in April due to its suboptimal emission profile. Instead, the new Vitara Brezza will get the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine of the Ciaz saloon and Ertiga compact van. The latter comes rated at 105 hp (78 kW) and 138 Nm (102 lb-ft), and can be purchased with a mild hybrid add-on. The non-hybrid version will ship with five-speed manual transmission, whereas the hybrid one will benefit from a four-speed automatic design.

Prices will be announced later this month.
