British carmaker Morgan has resurrected its Plus Six retro sports car series. The new car, which was demonstrated at the Geneva show, looks virtually identical to its antiquated predecessor, but packs some new tech and features.
The series comes back with a BMW 3.0 V6 turbo rated at 340 hp (254 kW) under the hood. It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds and doesn’t hit its speed ceiling until 267 km/h (166 mph). The low weight of the roadster, which amounts to just 1,075 kilograms (2,370 lbs), also contributes to its dynamics in no small way.
The ABS system is the only safety-oriented feature on board. The engine links to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, which in turn connects to BMW gear selector and paddle shifter. Both look out-of-place on the retro-styled car, but at least the manufacturer says it is considering releasing a stick-shift version of the car someday.
The vehicle takes advantage of the modern CX chassis made of aluminum, but its cabin is still composed of solid ashwood planks on a metallic frame. Owing to the flexibility of the new platform it is based upon, a single 2019 Morgan Plus Six now takes only four weeks to produce, as opposed to eight weeks before.
The company is already taking pre-orders starting from £78,000. First cars will ship as the Launch Edition, sporting a removable hardtop and priced at £90,000 and above.
