The V6-packing modification of the Tank 300 that went on sale in China on March 16 has found more than 3,500 buyers within 72 hours since launch despite costing nearly 50% more than the standard 2.0L version. According to AutoHome, the company may now want to revise its original plans to cap the first batch at 1,000 units.
The new Tank 330 starts from 330,000 Yuan in China, while the off-roader it is based upon – the Tank 300 – can be had for 199,800 Yuan before options.
Like the senior Tank 500 model, the Tank 330 uses a V6 to drive all four wheels with 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque through a nine-speed AT and reduction gear. A 48V starter-generator helps with the acceleration.
Aside from the superior engine, the Tank 330 features a revised appearance including both bumpers and hood, 20mm (0.8”) of added wheel span, and 18-inch wheels shod in all-terrain tires. As a result, its ground clearance doesn’t go lower than 242 mm (9.45”) and its approach and departure angles amount to 36 and 33 degrees, respectively.
Only one trim scheme – black and dark red – is available so far. The first production batch also flaunts special badges, an infotainment system linked to a pair of 12.3-inch displays, and heated/ventilated seats. A wireless phone charger is provided, and the software on board supports over-the-air (OTA) updates.
In an earlier communication, the carmaker said the Tank 330 would be a limited-edition SUV. The original 1,000 units won’t be all, but all other production runs would also be capped for exclusivity. With more than 3,500 preorders on its hands, though, the company might want to reconsider these targets.
