Tata Motors reveals its most affordable EV for the masses

Tata Motors, India’s largest automotive manufacturer, has launched pre-orders for its upcoming urban car called Tigor EV. Reserving one for yourself costs 21,000 Indian Rupees.

The vehicle is said to have incorporated the technological expertise and know-how gained from designing the Nexon EV, and is slated to become one of India’s most popular battery cars. Tata Motors says it hopes to rid the country of internal combustion engines soon.

As one would expect, the technical parameters are tame at best. A sole electric motor produces 75 PS (74 hp / 55 kW) and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) of torque, taking the car 0-60 km/h (0-37 mph) in 5.7 seconds. The traction battery is rated at 26 kWh, but actual ranges remain to be measured. Each battery comes with a warranty valid for eight years or 160,000 kilometers (99,420 miles) of use.
