Tata unwraps the Avinya Concept

News have been scarce from Tata Motors lately, but we would take quality over quantity any time. Today, the Indian automaker introduced the world to a fully electric concept vehicle named the Avinya.

Short overhangs are the first thing you notice when looking at the car. Tata uses a new, dedicate EV platform to achieve such results. Technical parameters are scarce, but the company claims the prototype can cover 500 kilometers (310 miles) after a 30-minute charge-up.

As other modern concepts tend to go, this one lacks b-pillars and has its rear doors swinging open against the direction of driving. Video cameras sit at the sides instead of mirrors, and large wheels in the arches remind us of those of the Volkswagen ID.3.

The headlights and taillights converge to form the Tata logo, a rather nifty design decision. The roof is nearly completely flat, which translates into additional cabin space. Inside, the front seats can swivel backwards for the driver to face the rest of the passengers when the car drives itself. There is no conventional infotainment display, and the dash gauges are displayed on a small screen on the steering wheel.

Tata claims the Avinya Concept will morph into a mass-production car by 2025.
