Tata shows off a trio of would-be SUVs

Tata’s Auto Expo booth had more cars on display than we had the time to cover so far. Specifically, the company previewed a couple of electric SUVs and a battery coupe-SUV. At least one of these is slated to go on sale next year.

Opening the lineup is a concept called Curvv, which represents a coupe-like modification of the mass-produced Harrier model based on Omega architecture. It comes equipped with both electric motors and gas turbo engines ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 liters of displacement. The whole car is likely over 4 meters (13.1 feet) long in this new version, but the company didn’t mention it.

In 2024, Tata expects to release another electric modification of the Harrier to the market as well (whether the Curvv Concept will make it or not remains to be seen). The Harrier EV Concept seen here boasts a solid front grille and aerodynamic wheels, among other distinctive features. The platform will be modernized to accommodate battery cells under the floor panels. The parameters remain to be revealed, but Tata let it slip that a dual-motor AWD version was likely.

The manufacturer also confirmed that some of the features seen on the concept car – for instance, the updated infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display – will become available for the standard fuel-powered Harrier model.

Last but not least, Tata is planning to introduce a completely new engine soon that will power the next-gen Harrier and another car named Sierra. At the show, the Sierra was displayed as an early EV concept, but its final production version will support traditional powertrains as well. For instance, it will ship with a 1.5-liter turbo engine estimated between 160–180 PS (158–178 hp; 118–132 kW, respectively). The launch is scheduled for 2025.
