According to The Indian Express, the once ambitious and promising Tamo Racemo racecar concept is going to have to find another manufacturer that would bring it into production. Tata Motors premiered the vehicle a year ago at the Geneva trade fair, but cannot continue working on it due to mounting losses.
The company keeps selling its assets to try and cover the debt. In a situation like this, one can only hope that a buyer shows up who can rescue the project and perhaps see it through instead of putting it on hold.
The Tamo Racemo is a rear-drive, two-door car that only weighs 800 kg (~1765 lb). It is only 3,835 mm (12.6 ft) long with 2,430 mm (8.0 ft) space between axles. It comes equipped with a modestly-sized 1.2L three-cylinder engine coupled with a six-speed DCT, which nonetheless manages to produce as much as 190 hp (142 kW). The racecar needs less than six seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph).
There is also a full-electric modification named Tamo Racemo+, which packs a 204-hp (152 kW) engine and can cover as much as 350 km (217 mi) before depleting its battery. It also accelerates to 200 km/h (125 mph) when riding in a straight line.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time Tata Motors tries to get rid of the Racemo project. The company put it on hold over insufficient financing last year, but the management later decided to try and resume working on it despite bankruptcy concerns.
Prices aren’t publicly available.
