Tata launches Punch, a $6.7k crossover SUV

The Tata Punch is already available to pre-order in India priced from the equivalent of $6,700 to $10,700 USD.

The affordable mini-CUV runs on a proprietary platform named ALFA and is 3,827 mm long, 1,742 mm wide and 1,615 mm tall with 2,445 mm between the axles. Wheels comes in sizes of 15 and 16 inches, the ground clearance is not bad at 190 mm, and the car can wade water up to 370 mm high. The suspension makes use of McPherson struts at the front and a flexible beam in the back. The rear brakes are drum-based, and the drive stays locked on the front axle.

A naturally aspirated 1.2-liter three-pot comes mated to a five-speed manual or semi-automatic transmission and produces 86 PS (85 hp / 63 kW) along with 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque. Reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill driving stick shift takes a sluggish 16.5 seconds. A turbo engine should appear in the range later.

As far as features are concerned, the doors open to nearly 90 degrees, the floor is almost completely level in the back, and the cabin can accommodate up to five passengers, preferably smaller ones. The standard trim has two airbags, ABS, AC, and front power windows. Paid options include cruise and climate control, a 7-inch multimedia touchscreen, a reversing camera, and a rain sensor.
