The Boring Company, another promising enterprise headed by Elon Musk, has introduced an innovative underground rapid-transit network compatible with all manner of Tesla EVs.
According to Musk, you wil only need to attach a special roller-based chassis to the front of your car in order to use the tunnel. The chassis will prevent collisions with the tunnel walls and enable you to accelerate up to 250 km/h (155 mph).
Owners of Tesla cars may grab the chassis for as little as $200 - $300. The hi-speed transit system currently only works in Los-Angeles, but the company eventually plans to bring it to Chicago and, possibly, Las-Vegas, too.
The Boring Company had initially planned to carry cars along the tunnels on independently powered platforms, but the chassis turned out to be more efficient overall.
For those who still only have a vague idea of how this works, here’s a simple explanation. First, you drive your Tesla car onto a special elevator that takes you to the underground tunnel 3.6 meters (11.8 ft.) wide. Then you attach the chassis, align it with the tunnel rail and just keep going at 250 km/h (155 mph) until you reach your destination, no steering required. Smart!
