According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the company has almost completed working on its first all-electric pickup truck model and will be officially introducing it in two or three months.
In a previous statement, Musk said the truck would come priced at just U.S. $49,000. He emphasized that the company would attempt to cut costs wherever reasonable to make the model appeal to a wide audience.
Media first learned about Tesla’s intentions to release a pickup truck three years ago. During a presentation dedicated to the future development strategy of the marque, Tesla demonstrated a rendering of a gigantic pickup somewhat reminiscent of the upcoming Semi.
The company keeps the exterior of the car secret, saying that it might end up styled similar to the Semi truck. The only official teaser pic revealed so far is very dark and only shows a few body outlines. The 3D renderings you can see here are unofficial concept art by Behance artist Emre Husmen.
It is official that the Tesla Pickup will arrive packing two electric engines, a self-parking feature and smart suspension that would be able to adjust itself to the current load. The driving range is estimated at around 500 miles (800 kilometers).
