When he founded The Boring Company in 2017, Elon Musk dreamt of creating a whole network of underground tunnels enabling high-speed transportation. Now, it looks like the system may soon be ready to launch.
The latest reports from multiple sources claim that the transportation bureau in San Bernardino, California, authorized The Boring Company to build a tunnel between the city of Rancho Cucamonga and the Ontario International Airport. The tunnel is going to be 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) long and feature dedicated high-speed passenger pods co-designed with Tesla. Each of these electric minibuses will be able to accommodate up to 12 passengers with luggage. The projected load is 1,200 daily passengers and ultimately over 10 million annually.
The details about the project should emerge in August or September this year.
