Meet Mr. Nippy, a rather unassuming-looking ice cream kiosk on wheels that used a Tesla electric powertrain to hit 80 miles per hour (128.8 km/h) in a straight line, officially becoming the fastest vehicle of its kind on the planet.
Piloted by Top Gear presenter Paddy McGuinness, the elderly 1979 Bedford CF beat the speed record of its predecessor by nearly 10 km/h (6.2 mph). The truck had a few other mods installed apart from the Tesla powertrain, most notably including a Land Rover 110 chassis dating back to the 1980s era.
The fastest production car in the world – the SSC Tuatara – may have nothing to fear from the cute Mr. Nippy, but its recently achieved acceleration of 500 km/h (310 miles per hour) is currently being disputed by several parties, so there is no telling whether that record will hold. This one certainly will, though.
