Elon Musk: Tesla will release an all-electric pickup truck straight after Model Y

According to the latest message from Elon Musk, Tesla intends to begin development and production of its first full-electric pickup truck immediately after the release of its crossover car, the Model Y.

All visitors to the official presentation of the Tesla Semi truck could see some initial sketches of the pickup right at the exhibition stand.

Tesla Model Y is a compact crossover which uses the Model 3 platform. The vehicle gets to inherit most of its units and mechanisms directly from the sedan model. According to the manufacturer, its assembly procedure is going to be optimized so that the car ends up with less messy wiring inside. Its market release is planned for late 2019.

The full-electric Tesla Semi truck was officially introduced in November 2017. The car travels up to 800 kilometers before discharge and accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in five seconds. Even when fully loaded with 36 metric tons (80,000 lbs.) of cargo on board, it still manages to achieve the same feat in mere 20 seconds.
