Tesla recalls nearly 12k cars with safety system issues

Tesla has conducted an over-the-air recall of the new operating software it installed on 11,704 vehicles after it turned out that certain active security features could be triggered in a false-positive way.

All four models – S, 3, X and Y – were found affected. The problematic update was only rolled out on cars produced between 2017 and 2021 and supporting Full Self-Driving. Incorrect switching between on/off/hibernation states in certain sensors caused the safety systems of the cars to erroneously detect an impending frontal collision and apply an emergency brake.

Since sudden braking could cause accidents, the software update was quickly pulled from the download center, and all affected cars immediately received patches that remotely switched off these hazardous features. A few days later, Tesla confirmed that it got rid of all the remaining issues and upgraded the software on all the affected vehicles to a stable version.
