In a recent Twitter announcement, Tesla Inc. confirmed having over 30,000 EV charging stations worldwide. On November 8 last year, the company reported hitting 20,000.
A typical station has 9 charging terminals on average, but some larger ones offer several dozens of them. The world’s largest Supercharger field opened in China in late 2020 with 72 terminals working 24/7. Overall, China now enjoys access to around 7,600 such stations nationwide.
The network began to grow nine years ago, and it is still undergoing constant modernization. The V3 devices used currently support the 250kW standard, but older 120kW and 150kW nodes still remain in places. Tesla launched a worldwide upgrade effort this summer, replacing all older nodes with ones capable of 300kW charging power.
Earlier this month, the innovative automaker finally let other brand EV owners to use its stations, albeit only in the Netherlands and only in a dozen locations. If the experiment concludes safely, the company will expand the practice to other countries as well.
