Recent Twitter posts by U.S. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have triggered an avalanche of ironic comments pointing out the obvious failure of either party to mention Tesla Inc. in their lofty speeches about the electric car future of America.
As you must have heard, Biden has attended the opening ceremony of Factory Zero, a new General Motors-owned production site in Detroit dedicated exclusively to battery vehicles. The President thanked GM CEO Mary Barra for her contribution to the total electrification of land transports. He then posted the following tweet: “The future is electric – and it will be made right here in America.”
Kamala Harris expressed similar sentiments on her Twitter later: “We’re going to build electric vehicles—and the batteries and parts that go in them—in the United States, instead of relying on other countries. The future will be made in America.”
Hundreds of commenters reacted by reminding the politicians that Tesla had been creating EV infrastructure in the North America and worldwide for over ten years now. Some joked that Harris never heard of Tesla Inc. despite her former occupation as the Attorney General of California.
For his part, Tesla CEO Elon Musk joked that “maybe they are NPCs and Tesla just isn’t in their dialogue tree.” He even rose up to the challenge: “Let’s see if we can get them to say the word ‘Tesla’!”
