Having launched production at the Gigafactory Berlin, Tesla posted a video filmed with an FPV drone to let everyone know how its electric cars come to be, in a step-by-step fashion.
In the footage, the quadcopter enters the building through an outdoor parking lot and a parts warehouse. It flies by a stamping facility where robotic equipment stamps bodywork into shape. It then proceeds to the welding shop, which is also operated by robots. Next down the line is a finishing facility comprising an electrophoretic cell and a painting area.
As the drone is nearing the end of its flight, it provides a good view of the main assembly belt where Model Y SUVs are being made right now. In the end, it makes a quick tour of a quality control line and a parking lot for completed EVs.
The automaker’s first industrial complex in Europe celebrated its launch last week. It took Tesla a few years and five billion euros to build it. When fully upgraded, the factory will be producing up to 500,000 examples per year, but Tesla says it will need a few years to reach the target figures.
