Tesla electric cars no longer ship with a AC charging cable included, although prices stay the same.
The company had originally delivered its vehicles with two chargers included: a 9.6kW NEMA 14‑50 and a 1.2kW NEMA 5‑15. The former was moved into the list of paid options quite a while ago. The latter was quite weak and only really suitable for full nighttime charging (you got around 3-5 kilometers of range after an hour spent at a wall socket). Now, however, this cheap cable is no longer included in the shipment, either.
Elon Musk said the decision was reached because there was little demand for the low-end charger. To compensate somewhat, Tesla dropped its price from $275 to $200. The NEMA 14-50 is still available for $400. Neither can be ordered from the manufacturer’s website at the moment, though.
