Tesla specialist Unplugged Performance has introduced a new interior makeover option for all Tesla EV owners who prefer vegan materials and synthetic plant-fiber leathers in particular.
The novelty was designed by Vicki von Holzhausen, the wife of Tesla Design Manager Frank von Holzhausen who owns her own fashion brand. Elon Musk stopped using natural leather in Tesla cars several years ago, and the latest offering from the von Holzhausens looks like a quality replacement for the stock trim.
Called Banbu Leather, it is made from bamboo fibers, a rapidly growing and thus easily renewable source of plant fiber. The leatherette derived from it is said to be fairly resistant to mechanical wear-and-tear, and decays much faster when discarded than the natural leather.
Unplugged Performance says its team spends around 100 hours re-trimming one car. Prices start at $30,000 USD for the Tesla Model S. You can either have your existing Tesla EV overhauled or order a brand-new one with Banbu Leather already applied.
