Tesla recalling 350k+ cars due to dangerous FSD behavior

Tesla has launched a recall campaign in the United States encompassing 362,758 Model S, 3, X and Y cars made in 2016–2023 after receiving a complaint from NHTSA.

The National Highway Transports Safety Administration found that the driving assistance system acts dangerously in a wide number of scenarios, including four problematic behaviors at intersections.

Specifically, the “Autopilot” – as Tesla CEO Elon Musk fashions the Level 2 semi-autonomous system – may urge the car through the orange light or through the turn lane, creating an accident-prone situation. It can also spend a long time idling at stop signs with no other cars in view or maintain an incorrect speed even after registering a new speed limiter sign.

The NHTSA made its point clear to Tesla Inc. on January 25, but it wasn’t until early February that the first software updates started rolling out. The company is currently aware of 18 related incidents, but no injuries.
