Rumor: Tesla considers adding wireless charging functionality to its EVs

The list of home EV chargers offered by Tesla Inc. may soon be complemented with a wireless option, Business Insider is reporting quoting the German Commercial Register.

According to the leak, the U.S. electric car maker is either negotiating the purchase or has already purchased Wiferion, a startup firm specializing in wireless car charging technology.

Wiferion was founded seven years ago and has been selling induction chargers to corporate clients since 2018. The publication claims it has sold around 8,000 units so far.

Rumor has it that Tesla is interested in adapting the technology to suit its own goals, and has spent a few years working in this direction. Allegedly, the company may opt for buying Wiferion instead of designing its own charger to save time.

Aside from delivering chargers to private EV owners, Tesla could also install them at its industrial sites to power up the mobile robots working in its various facilities.
