Tesla bot learns to sort items, balances better than ever

Tesla has posted a new video previewing the latest revision of its robot prototype named Optimus. Judging by it, the bot has learned many new tricks and became smarter, learning to distinguish objects from one another and categorize them.

The movement has become much smoother overall: at any particular moment, the robot is now aware of the exact position of its limbs. Thanks to an upgraded motion module, it can now stand up on one leg and assume yoga-like poses – check out the full video to see more.

In earlier press releases, the company said Optimus could hold fragile items without breaking them. Thanks to some more neural network training, it can now also understand where the different items are located and how to tell the difference between different items using their distinguishing traits. In the video, Optimus meditatively sorts colorful cubes into different boxes and doesn’t get confused even when a human operator interferes in the process. The company emphasizes that the robot is doing the whole work on its own, without any external guidance. Further training can help it solve other, more difficult tasks.

Teslarati points out that Tesla Inc. is currently hiring new professionals into its Optimus project team. More than 50 vacancies are open for experts in mechatronics and robotics, software programmers and other specialists. CEO Elon Musk said before that he was resolved to see the project through to its market release, and it now seems like he was serious.
