Tesla and the NHTSA have launched a service campaign concerning 199,575 electric vehicles that may display inaccurate video feed when reversing. Owners are advised to rely on their rearview mirrors instead until a software update arrives with a fix.
Apparently, the latest planned update to the Tesla EV software resulted in an unforeseen software conflict. The company learned about the issue in late December last year and has since received over 80 applications for rearview camera repairs under warranty. Tesla emphasizes that it is unaware of any related incidents – only reports of the back-up cameras malfunctioning.
The service centers have already been notified about the issue, but the affected owners will not get a notification until March this year. The company provides no explanation as to why it is taking it so long to introduce the fix via an OTA update.
The recall concerns a number of Tesla Models Y, S and X made in 2023.
