Tesla Inc. has secured a permission to expand its industrial area in Germany in 2023. Reports are now coming in from environment protection activists that it had to hew down half a million trees to do so.
According to the calculations of these sources, it added 13,000 tons of CO2 emissions to the automaker’s carbon footprint. It is comparable to running a fleet of 3,000 ICE cars for a year.
In turn, Tesla said it was on track to planting one million trees in the country before the end of the year. The only caveat is that young growths don’t recycle nearly as much CO2 as their fully grown counterparts, and it will be decades before they do.
