Tesla Motors has made it official that the company’s next SUV, the Model Y, shall reach the production-ready stage in November, 2019.
The car will more or less use the Model 3 as base, but will also borrow quite a few features from the Model X. It is likely to take advantage of a new battery design that would allow Tesla to streamline its manufacturing and assembly processes.
The original Tesla Model 3 debuted last year. The base version of the car ships with a driving range of 350 kilometers (~220 miles) and sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.
Earlier this year, the company has announced a rename to ‘Tesla Inc.’ to reflect Elon Musk’s long-standing desire to ‘create a sustainable energy empire’.
