Gigafactory Texas has already produced more than a hundred autonomous Tesla Cybercabs, with the company staying tight-lipped about their specifications. CEO Elon Musk broke the silence earlier this week, posting a couple of images of the EV along with some details.
As you can see, the Cybercab has a small hatch in the roof concealing a Starlink satellite antenna underneath. At first, the company says it plans to use this antenna to track Cybercab prototypes in remote areas with poor cellular coverage. The reasoning strikes us as a bit odd, considering that GPS is ubiquitous these days, with 4G offering faster and cheaper Internet access than Starlink most of the time. Still, it’s now official that the antenna represents an integral part of the Cybercab, so there’s that.
All powertrain details remain secret. Despite coming in at around 4.5 meters long (177 inches), the Cybercab is a two-seater. Until it obtains all the necessary certificates and clearances, one of the seats will be occupied by a “supervisor”. Their purpose likewise remains unclear, because the EV has no conventional steering controls like the wheel or pedals.
