Elon Musk has let it slip that the world premiere of the Tesla Model Y all-electric crossover SUV will commence on March 15, 2019. He admitted that the company might postpone it for June if it struggles with the deadline. The sales should begin in 2020.
In his recent Twitter message, the Tesla CEO explained why he believes the premiere should happen on March 15th and not on a different date. “I just made that up, because the Ides of March sounded good,” he said. The company had initially expected to debut its Model Y in June 2019 at the latest, therefore the date seems realistic enough.
On an important side note, the company had to accelerate the development of the vehicle because of the Model 3 launch failure. The tesla Model Y had been initially scheduled for show premiere in 2020, with sales following a year after that.
The newcomer will inherit certain design and technical features from the Model X and will come outfitted with Tesla’s trademark Falcon Wing doors. It will be sold in two different engine specifications, the stronger of the two coming with a larger battery for greater driving range.
