Car manufacturer Tesla plans to equip its entire model range with automated turn signals. The corresponding patent claim has already been submitted for approval.
The innovative system will be integrated in the Tesla Autopilot cruise control system and process data from ultrasonic sensors, video cameras and the steering wheel.
The description of the technology states that the data will be processed by a dedicated computer platform assisted by the electric car’s mainframe. It will try to quickly detect whether the driver wants to make a turn or change lane.
Elon Musk had previously said the company would make its patents openly accessible for everyone, which means that other car companies may implement a similar system in their own models.
