Media: Tesla Cybertruck will attempt to go mirrorless

The U.S. electric car maker’s first pickup lacks the conventional side mirrors because it has video cameras built into its wheel arch extensions.

More specifically, the cameras sit inside the rear upper folds of the fenders, mounted on the triangular panel joint points. They stream live video feed onto the displays inside the cabin, eliminating the need for hardware side mirrors.

Everything indicates that Tesla will attempt to deliver this feature with the final production version of the truck. Whether it will succeed remains uncertain, though, because the current U.S. legislation says side mirrors are mandatory. Unless amendments are made before 2021, the truck will have to be redesigned with the mirrors before production. As for Europe and Japan, where the laws are less strict on this particular point, Tesla may make the cameras standard in all trims.
