Tesla announces top-of-the-line Cybertruck spec

Following the announcements of performance-boosted ‘Plaid’ versions of the Tesla Model S and Model X (the former expected to launch later this year), Elon Musk dropped a Twitter message saying that the Cybertruck would also be getting a ‘Plaid’ spec – and added that he would grab one for himself as soon as the production begins.

The specifics aren’t here yet, but the Plaid powertrain in the Model S and X basically means three electric motors, low ride height and sports-grade suspension. Both cars can accelerate 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under three seconds.

That said, the company might want to take its weird utility truck in a different direction altogether, prioritizing its off-road capabilities and ending up with a Ford F-150 Raptor rival.

Whatever the actual case, we likely won’t know until next year or so.
