Tesla claims it can design and produce heavily bent and otherwise shaped windshields that the traditional industrial methods cannot achieve – here are the first patent images shedding some light on the innovative tech.
The patent details the approaches used to shape an extremely robust curved, bent and molded sheet of glass to be used in the futuristic pickup truck. Aside from the windshield, the same technology is apparently used to produce the dashboard, although no explanation is provided on the specifics. The patent claim mentions that a layer of protective film is used to hold the glass together in accidents, and should prevent it from falling apart even after a strong direct impact.
The above notwithstanding, the Cybertruck still hasn’t reached production, and supply shortages may continue for a while due to a lack of semiconductors. Registering a patent does not guarantee that the company will use it in any particular product.
