Handle-free Tesla Cybertruck attracts media attention

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers trading conventional door handles for a seamless retractable design that both looks cool and improves aerodynamics. Now, Tesla wants to get rid of the concept completely in its Cybertruck pickup.

A recent tweet from Elon Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck would not have handles. Instead, the car will automatically open its door upon detecting the owner coming close.

Why should it be a big deal? It should not – not necessarily, at least – but smooth doors do make a vehicle sleeker in terms of overall design and aerodynamics. They also simplify/cheapen production processes, something that may or may not be crucial for Tesla at this moment.

Tesla is actually already offering automatic doors with the Model X, but that SUV has physical handles as well. We can’t help wondering how many countries may end up banning the truck for what could be seen as a potential safety issue in emergencies.
